Websites for painters & decorators

Websites for painters and decorators, built around the finish

Decorating is bought on two things a photograph can show and a directory listing cannot: the standard of the finish, and the state the house is left in each evening. The customer searching for a painter and decorator near them is looking at six lead sites before they reach anyone's own website, and the first question in their head is what it will cost. We build decorating sites that answer both, with real rooms you have finished and a straight explanation of how you price.

Why a generic site lets you down

What a painter and decorator's customers actually do

  • The search they make is owned by the directories

'Painters and decorators near me' is searched around 18,100 times a month in the UK, and when we checked that search in September 2026 the first page was TrustATrader, Checkatrade, Bark, MyBuilder, Yell and MyJobQuote, with Google's own business panel above them. Two independent firms made the page, both with the work and the town in the domain. Your site is not competing with the other decorator in your area so much as with six companies selling your name back to you.

  • Every one of them asks the price first

On that same search, every question Google listed under 'people also ask' was about money: what you should pay a painter and decorator, what most charge an hour, what a day costs. If your site says nothing about how you price, the customer answers the question on a directory instead, using an average from jobs that are nothing like theirs, and you end up defending a number you never quoted.

  • Nobody can see the prep, which is where the work is

Filling, sanding, caulking and two coats of the right primer are most of the day and most of the difference between your quote and the cheap one. A finished wall photographed straight on shows none of it, so the customer compares you on the only thing they can see, which is the total. Galleries that show what the wall looked like first are how a decorator gets paid for preparation.

Built for the trade

What we build into every painter and decorator website

  • A page for each kind of work you want

Interior decorating, exterior painting and render, wallpapering, spray finishing for kitchens and doors, and commercial or landlord work. They are different customers with different budgets, and somebody searching for a hallway repaint should not land on the same page as a facilities manager pricing an office.

  • Before and after galleries that include the prep

Each job shown as it arrived, halfway through, and finished, with the room and the town named. Photographs from your phone are fine and are usually better than studio shots, because they look like the house the customer is standing in. It also gives every job page its own images rather than the same three stock rooms across the site.

  • How you price, written down once

Day rate, price per room, or priced per job after a look, whichever way you actually work, with what is included: filling and making good, the number of coats, whether you move furniture, who supplies the paint. It stops the same conversation happening on every call, and it filters out the people shopping purely on an hourly figure.

  • The seasons built into the front page

Demand moves through the year. The same near-me search ran at 22,200 in October 2025 and 6,600 in December (DataForSEO, UK, checked 23 September 2026). We build the home page so the work you want at that time of year is the first thing on it: exteriors and render through the summer, interiors, woodwork and getting ready for Christmas from the autumn.

  • Your scheme badges, linked to the register

If you are a member of the Painting and Decorating Association, a Dulux Select Decorator, TrustMark registered or a Which? Trusted Trader, each badge sits where people look and links to the scheme's own directory so it can be checked in a minute. The PDA describes itself as the largest UK trade association for professional, insured painters and decorators, and runs a Find a professional listing, which is the kind of proof a cautious homeowner wants.

  • A quote form that asks the right five things

How many rooms, what condition they are in, whether it is emulsion only or woodwork too, when they want it done, and photographs. That is enough to price most domestic jobs from the van, and it means the site sends you jobs you can quote instead of messages saying 'how much to paint my house'.

Getting found locally

How customers find a painter and decorator

Decorating is a local search first and a website second. 'Painters and decorators near me' and 'decorators near me' together run to well over 20,000 searches a month in the UK, nearly all on a phone, and Google answers them with a map above the results. Those map places go to firms with a complete Google Business Profile, a steady flow of reviews with photographs attached, and a website with a real page for each kind of work and each area. We build the website half properly, and the profile and review work is ongoing, whether you do it or we do.

Already have a site?

Getting into the map is SEO, which is a separate service from the build and priced on its own.

Commercial and contract decorating

If your work comes from offices, letting agents, housing stock or main contractors rather than homeowners, the site has a different reader. That means pages about working around occupied buildings, out of hours and weekend working, RAMS and site inductions, CSCS carded teams, how you invoice on retention or stage payments, and the size of job you can resource. Facilities managers check those before they ask for a price, and almost no decorating site mentions them.

Questions

Painters & decorators ask us

Should I put my day rate on my website?

Put the basis of your pricing up even if you cannot put a figure on every job. Google's own list of related questions for 'painters and decorators near me' is nothing but price: what a painter costs a day, what most charge an hour, what you should pay. Someone is answering that for you, and if it is not your site it is a directory average. Saying that you price by the day, by the room or after a look, and what is included, wins you the calls from people who have already accepted how you work. If you are working out your own figure first, our day rate calculator starts from what you want to take home.

How do I get found for 'painters and decorators near me'?

Three things, in this order. A Google Business Profile that is complete, with the right categories, real job photographs and a steady flow of reviews, because the map sits above the results. Then a website with a page for each kind of work and each area you genuinely cover, so there is something for Google to rank and something for the customer to read. Then time, because the directories on that page have been there for years. Nobody can promise you the top of a map that Google fills partly on how close you are to the person searching.

What should the gallery show?

The same job at three points: before, mid-prep and finished, with the room and the town in the caption. Prep is the part customers never see and the part your price depends on, so a photograph of filled and sanded walls does more for a quote than another picture of a finished lounge. Phone photographs are fine. Ten jobs shown properly beat forty thumbnails.

Do I need a page for wallpapering and spraying separately?

If you want more of that work, yes. Wallpaper hanging and spray finishing are searched and bought differently from a repaint, they carry different rates, and a customer with a feature wall in mind will not dig through a general decorating page to find out whether you do it. Each of those pages also gives you somewhere to show that specific work rather than burying it in one gallery.

Can I see a decorator's website you have built?

Yes. Adam Woods Decorating in South Manchester, built by JW Digital Services Ltd, which runs this site. It covers Didsbury, Altrincham, Sale and Knutsford, and is built around before-and-after work with a simple enquiry route.
