Software and security updates, checked afterwards
Updates are applied on a schedule and the site is checked after each one, because an update that breaks the quote form is worse than no update. On WordPress that means core, theme and plugins; sites we build are code you own, without a stack of plugins to patch.
Backups you can actually restore from
Regular backups kept away from the server, with the restore tested, because a backup that has never been restored is a hope, not a plan. If something breaks, we roll back rather than start again.
Uptime and malware monitoring
We are alerted when the site goes down or a scan finds something it shouldn't, so it gets looked at before you or your customers notice. You should never be the one to discover your site has been offline all weekend.
Speed and phone checks every month
Each month we check the things that turn a visitor into a job: the page loads quickly on a phone, the number is one tap, the quote form submits and lands in your inbox. If any of that slips, it gets fixed.
Small edits and trust signals kept current
New prices, a new service, a renewed Gas Safe or NICEIC registration, fresh Google reviews, a change of service area: send it over and it gets done as part of the plan. New pages and redesigns are quoted separately, so there are no surprise invoices.

How the plans work

Launch or move
If we built your site, hosting is set up before launch and there is nothing for you to do. If it lives elsewhere, we take a full copy, move it, check every page and form on the new hosting, then point your domain at it, keeping the old copy live until the switch is confirmed.

Set the baseline
To start, we take a backup, run the updates, fix anything obviously broken, note how fast the site loads on a phone, and switch on monitoring. You get a short plain-English note of what we found and what we changed.

Look after it every month
Updates, backups, monitoring, checks and your edits, month after month. If something needs a decision from you, like a plugin that has been abandoned or a form that should change, we tell you before we act.
Moving an existing site is a small job once we have access to your domain and current hosting. The domain switch itself can take some hours to settle, so we do it at a quiet time and keep the old copy running until the new one is confirmed. If we're building your site, hosting is set up as part of the build and both plans start on launch day, with the first year of each included on the Business package. Both run month to month, or annually if you prefer, and you can stop at the end of any paid month; there's no long contract.
Why not a directory or a DIY builder?
Where this is different
Against the cheap shared host
The headline price on shared hosting is often a first-year rate, and what you get for it is a control panel and a support ticket queue. Nobody there is checking your site is up, patched or fast. On a care plan, someone is, every month, and you know their name.
Against a DIY builder subscription
Wix, Squarespace and similar builders bundle hosting into the monthly fee, but the site only runs on their platform, so leaving means starting again. On a care plan the site, the domain and the content are yours; cancel and you take all of it with you.
Against the web guy who's gone quiet
Plenty of trades have a site built by a mate or a freelancer who has moved on, with the hosting and domain registered in someone else's name. We put the domain in your name, write down where everything lives, and you always have a number to ring.
Against leaving it alone
A site nobody touches doesn't stay the same. Software goes out of date, forms stop sending without telling anyone, and a slow or hacked site loses ground on Google. The plan exists so small problems are fixed while they're still small.

What are website maintenance services?
Website maintenance is the routine work that keeps a site secure, fast and working: software and security updates, backups with a tested restore, uptime and malware monitoring, speed checks and small content changes. Hosting is different: it's the server the site lives on. A care plan is the two together for one monthly fee, so one company is responsible for the whole thing.
Do websites require maintenance?
Yes, though how much depends on how the site was built. A WordPress site needs its core, theme and plugins updated regularly or it becomes a security risk and things start to break. A site built as plain code, the way we build them, has far less to patch, but it still needs hosting, backups, a renewing SSL certificate, monitoring, and someone to keep prices, services and accreditations current.
How much does it cost to host and maintain a website?
It splits in two. Hosting is the server the site runs on, and on its own it is cheap because it comes with nothing: no updates, no backups, nobody watching. Maintenance is the work on top, and it costs more because somebody is doing it. We price them apart for that reason: hosting is £15 a month and website care is £25 a month. Paid yearly, website maintenance and hosting together come to £400 a year (£150 hosting, £250 care). If we build the site as well, the Business package, from £995, includes the first year of both, so the build and a year of looking after it are one price. Whoever you use, ask which of the two you are paying for.
Can I hire someone to manage my website?
Yes, and for most trades that's exactly what a care plan is. You send changes by email or phone and we make them, and we handle the technical side you'd rather not touch. For a trades business that usually means updating prices and services, adding job photos, swapping an accreditation badge and making sure the phone links and quote form keep working.
What happens if I stop the care plan?
The site stays yours. The domain, the design and the content belong to you whether you stay or go, so if you cancel we give you a full copy of the site and help point the domain wherever it's going next. What stops is the hosting, monitoring, updates and edits, so you'll need somewhere else to host it and someone to keep it patched.
Can you host and look after a site you didn't build?
Usually, yes. We look at how it was built first: a WordPress site or a plain HTML site can be moved and maintained. A site on Wix, Squarespace or a similar builder can't be moved, because it only runs on their platform; in that case the honest answer is a rebuild, and the website redesign page explains how that works.
