Kennel website design
Kennel website design that plans the first night away
Kennel website design is judged on the first booking. Searches for dog kennels near me average about 22,200 a month in the UK, and the questions behind them are practical: what a night costs for this dog, which vaccinations you need to see, whether you hold a licence, and whether the dog can visit first. Your website answers each one on a phone, then offers a visit before the first overnight stay, or a trial day once your council has said how it licenses one.

Demo website

Barkwell is a fictional business. We designed and built its website as a demo of how we build for boarding kennels, using illustrative photography.

Three kennels and a trial day
The Den and the Suite each list what the dog gets and a price per dog per night, samples on the demo. The Family lodge is priced per night for two dogs from one household, after a suitability chat, and a trial day is priced per dog, per day.
Prices shown before the request
02 / First stay
Meet before the first night
The first stay runs in three steps: a conversation about routine, exercise and food, an introduction through a visit or a trial day, then arrival with the dog's usual food and a favourite blanket.
A visit or trial day first
03 / Request
A request, never a reservation
Four steps: the stay, optional dates, a name and one way to reply, then a check. The form asks for no veterinary records, and the reply says a stay is arranged only once suitability and availability are confirmed.
Suitability confirmed first
Built for owners leaving a dog
Kennels, prices and policies, laid out for the owner.
The licence line, holder first
In England the licence holder's name must come first, followed by the licence number, shown clearly and prominently on any website used for boarding. We set it out in that order on every page.
Prices per dog, per night
Each kennel with what is included and a price per dog per night, a price for two dogs from one home, and the trial day, so an owner can cost a week away before asking.
Vaccinations listed before booking
Defra's guidance for kennels in England names the vaccinations a kennel must see on the record, and says kennel cough cover may be required. The booking page states which you ask for.
Exercise and play, described honestly
In England each dog must be exercised away from its kennel at least once a day, as its age and health allow, and shared outdoor time needs dogs from one home or the owners' written consent. The site says what you really do.
Visits and trial days
A visit or a trial day before the first night, requested like a stay. Defra puts daytime-only care under day care, so ask your council how a trial day is licensed before offering one. Booking software links are checked and priced before the quote.
Hours that cover Christmas
Reception and drop-off times for every day of the week, Christmas Day and Boxing Day included, kept separate from the care the dogs get overnight.
Searched before every holiday
First the kennel. Then the first night.
Kennel website design for the owner choosing where their dog stays, who checks the price per night and the licence before asking for dates.
Owners searching for kennels

0161 399 4054What will my fixed quote include?
Your pages, the features on them, the final price and the timescale, in writing before you pay a deposit. Hosting, care and any ongoing SEO are listed separately, so you can see what is one-off and what is monthly. On the Business package the first year of hosting and care is included.
What should the licence line on a kennel website say?
In England, the licence holder's name and then the licence number, shown clearly and prominently on any website you use for boarding: the licensing regulations set that order. If you also run day care or home boarding, the council gives you one star rating covering everything you do, rounded down to your weakest activity, so the site should never suggest a separate rating for each. Defra's own page adds that the licence number should appear in any advertising, which is guidance rather than the regulation. In Wales and Scotland the council licenses you under the 1963 Act, and in Northern Ireland DAERA does; no national rule there sets a wording for websites, so follow your licence conditions.
Can a new boarding kennel get five stars?
Not straight away, in England. A new licence holder without a year's compliance history is rated higher risk, and the best rating at higher risk is 4 stars with a two-year licence, which needs the optional higher standards; 5 stars needs a low-risk record as well. A rating can be appealed within 21 days of the licence being issued, and once you have made improvements you can ask the council to reinspect, at your cost, after which the rating can go up, down or stay the same. Your website shows the rating you hold now.
Do day care and home boarding need their own licence?
In England they are licensable activities separate from kennel boarding, each with its own conditions, and each one you offer needs to be licensed. Day care means no dog stays overnight and every dog is screened before it is admitted; home boarding means the dogs stay in your home, with dogs from different households boarded at the same time only with every owner's written consent. Defra's kennel guidance puts daytime-only care under day care, so if your website offers day stays, ask your council how it treats them. Dog sitters and walkers who look after a dog in its own home need no licence.
What should a kennel's booking page say about vaccinations?
In England, Defra's guidance says a kennel must see an up-to-date vaccination record from a vet showing current vaccinations against canine parvovirus, canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis and leptospirosis, with any primary course finished at least two weeks before the dog is accepted for boarding. Vaccination against kennel cough may be required too, and accepting a titre test certificate instead of a booster is up to you. Name your rule on the booking page and in the confirmation, so an owner with a gap has time to see the vet.
What should a kennel website say about staff qualifications?
In England, Defra's guidance says staff who care for the dogs must either hold a formal qualification, such as an Ofqual regulated Level 2 qualification suited to their role, or show relevant and sufficient knowledge and experience, and the licence holder needs a written training policy for all staff. A permanent, full-time member of staff with a Level 3 qualification is one of the optional higher standards behind a 4 or 5 star rating. Name only the qualifications your team actually holds; the demo's fictional profiles claim none.
Can a kennel website promise dogs will play together?
Only with conditions attached. In England, Defra's kennel guidance says outdoor areas must not be used by more than one dog at a time unless the dogs come from the same household or the owners have given written consent in advance, and only dogs from one household may share a kennel unit. A site that shows group play as standard promises something the rules make conditional. Describe what every dog gets, such as daily exercise away from its kennel, and present play with other dogs as something decided after assessing each dog and agreed with the owner; the demo makes group activity depend on assessment.
