Accountancy website design

Accountancy website design that answers what a new client checks

Around 12,100 searches a month in the UK are for accountants near me, and 1,900 for an accountant for a small business. Before they get in touch, they want a rough idea of the fee and some sign of who regulates you. A practice's own website answers both: packages with what each covers, your professional body and money laundering supervisor named, and a consultation request that keeps tax references out of the first message.

01 / Packages

Give a starting price and say what moves it

Three packages, for a sole trader, a limited company and advisory work, each with a monthly starting price excluding VAT and what it covers. The page says record volumes, payroll size and the state of the records set the final fee, agreed in writing first.

Scope agreed before work starts

02 / Consultation request

Keep tax references out of the first message

Three steps, from the service needed to a check before sending, with a note asking clients to leave their UTR, National Insurance number and bank details out of the message.

No UTR in the first message

03 / Credentials

Show who the practice answers to

Under the opening sits a credentials strip with a sample membership number and supervisor reference, where a real practice names its professional body and money laundering supervisor, and a line saying the demo's credentials are illustrative. Each accountant's profile repeats their number.

Built for your clients

Everything a client checks before choosing an accountant.

A consultation request first, the details a client checks, and services set out by the kind of client you take on.
  • A consultation request on every page

One request on every page that starts with the job, such as accounts, Self Assessment or VAT, then asks how to reply. A line above it says a UTR, bank details or a National Insurance number can wait for the first call.

  • Packages a client can compare

Starting prices for your main packages, what each one covers and what changes the fee, so the first call starts from the right package rather than from scratch.

  • Your professional body, as it allows

ICAEW's regulations decide whether a member firm in public practice may call itself Chartered Accountants; the words should not be in the firm's name and are not permitted in its domain. Other bodies set their own rules, and we use only the description and logo yours allows.

  • Your money laundering supervisor named

An accountancy practice must register with HMRC for money laundering supervision unless a professional body already supervises it. Naming yours tells a client whose register to check.

  • Services by the clients you take on

Pages for sole traders, landlords, limited companies and contractors, each listing the work you do for them: Self Assessment, year-end accounts, payroll, VAT and Making Tax Digital.

  • Guides that come round every year

Plain articles on tax deadlines, getting ready for digital records and switching accountant, each ending in a consultation request. Written with you, in your own words.

Found when owners compare accountants

The right clients. At the moment they choose.

Accountancy website design for the owner weighing up practices before year end, as well as the client a contact sends your way.

  • Business owners looking nearby

About 12,100 searches a month are for accountants near me, and 1,900 for an accountant for a small business. Searches for an accountant for Self Assessment rise to about 1,900 a month in October, November and January.

  • Owners asking what it costs

About 1,000 searches a month ask how much an accountant costs. A packages page with starting prices answers that before the first call.

How it works

From first chat to a website that works.

  1. 01

    Brief

Tell us the clients you work with, your packages and what moves the fee, your professional body and description, and your money laundering supervisor. We agree the scope and a fixed price.

  2. 02

    Build

The consultation request, packages, client-type pages, profiles and guides, written with you. The description of your firm and its regulation is yours, and you sign off every page.

  3. 03

    Launch

We send a test consultation request, check the description and logo against what your body allows your firm, and confirm the membership and supervisor details match your certificates. Then it goes live on a domain in your name.

What will my fixed quote include?

Your pages, the features on them, the final price and the timescale, in writing before you pay a deposit. Hosting, care and any ongoing SEO are listed separately, so you can see what is one-off and what is monthly. On the Business package the first year of hosting and care is included.

What should an accountant's website include?

The services you offer, set out by the kind of client you take on; how your fees are set, with starting prices if you publish them; your professional body and how it lets your firm describe itself; your money laundering supervisor; and a consultation request on every page. The demo shows each of these on a sample practice, with sample numbers and generic labels where a real firm would name its body.

Can we describe the firm as Chartered Accountants on the website?

For an ICAEW member firm in public practice, only if it meets ICAEW's regulations on the description or ICAEW grants a dispensation. A partnership or LLP needs chartered accountants to hold more than half the voting rights; a company needs at least half its directors to be chartered accountants, and more than half of its voting shares, and of all its shares, held by them. Any principal who is not a chartered accountant needs ICAEW affiliate status. ICAEW's guidance says the description should not form part of the firm's name, and member firms are not permitted to register domain names containing it. A firm regulated by another body follows that body's rules.

How do clients check an accountant is qualified?

Through your professional body's directory. ICAEW's, for example, confirms a member, the date they were admitted and whether they hold an ICAEW practising certificate. HMRC publishes a register of the businesses it supervises for money laundering, though it does not list firms a professional body supervises. Your membership number and supervisor on the site let a client match you to the right one.

Should an accountant's website show prices?

We found no rule that says it must, unlike the price rules for solicitors. About 1,000 searches a month ask how much an accountant costs, though, so the demo shows starting prices for three packages and says what moves the final fee. If you would rather not publish figures, the page can explain how you price instead.
